Journalist’s disappointed at not getting arrested in foreign countries.

Journalist outcry as they are kept safe and boring.

The Union of Foreign Correspondents this week have submitted a complaint to World News Australia on behalf of their journalists based in the Western world. London foreign correspondents report that their journalistic integrity has been worn down to 24/7 Royals coverage. The UFC demands a reshuffle for fluff piece journalism, with journalists to be flown straight to Iraq, Egypt and Afghanistan to get a real taste of the action. Jeremy Snide of World News Australia had this to say;

“All I want is to be in a news situation where someone will shoot at me, or I might get arrested for opposing the fascist government, is that so much to ask for?”

Snide went on to say that he’d even jeered at the Queen in passing to try and get incarcerated, but all he received was a caution from local police. “If this was Egypt, they would have locked me up, maybe even sentenced me to death.”

These sentiments arose from the recent incarceration of Peter Greste in Egypt. Some journalists claiming, “What a lucky bastard, I bet he wins some awards once he gets out.”

Democracy, Porn, Boat People and Harry Potter: A weekend rant.

It seems that we are bothered by a lot of things in the world on a day to day basis, some of these things trivial, some of them not so much.

The first thing that got to me this morning when I woke up and read the news was that the Obama administration had removed their response about protecting whistle blowers on Change.org. Obviously this is in response to Edward Snowden and how they want to avoid being hypocrites while also forgetting that you can’t just remove stuff from the internet. Honestly I’m over the whole Edward Snowden thing, I respect what he’s done, I really do, but unfortunately it seems America are moving towards a totalitarian regime hidden under the guise of democracy; and the rest of the world may follow.

Even my home country of England pushed for laws that would infringe the rights of their people. While the blocking of porn bill (I can’t remember it’s actual name) seems to be the best thing for protecting the children, it sets a nasty precedent. It will blur the lines of what is to be blocked and what is not, and soon enough a China like internet will be in place. With rights like the ability to congregate and protest already being infringed upon in recent years, it won’t be long until my favourite movie V For Vendetta is a very true reality, but without the freedom aspects and more complete control over the drooling British public.

Now onto my current home of Australia. Oh Australia, how you dehumanise other races and force otherism onto the whole political climate. Those people on boats are clearly terrorist and monsters, not people fleeing for their lives. While I agree we can’t just let everyone in, that a surge of people wouldn’t be fantastic, a better processing process would be amazing, and just sending them off to Papua New Guinea is not a solution. Although while I believe they may live nicer lives there than their original homes, it is unfair that we’ve let this be the hot bed issue of our political climate, and a country that was built off immigration would happily invest in the idea of being helped up onto the roof just to kick the guy behind him down.

Lastly, less political, but still irritating. After finishing reading the news for the day, furrowing my brow, I decided for some mindless entertainment on Tumblr. Nope! Arguments by the Harry Potter fandom about how evil James Potter is, how Lily and Snape should have been together, because James was a bully. Please people, get over your unresolved issues with being bullied and understand shitty kids can grow up to be normal human beings. That Lily wasn’t some naive girl who just chose her partner blindly. Finally, and I mean finally, Snape killed people, for Voldemort, that’s pretty fucking evil. Just trying to redeem yourself at the end doesn’t completely forgive a life of evil.

Anyway, have a nice weekend people.
